WE ARE BUILDERS
In 1840 our forebearers, the Orbea Brothers, opened a small workshop in the heart of Basque Country in Eibar. With relentless work and ambition, the workshop grew to become the first factory in a city eventually dedicated to industry.
Over time, the factory became a leader amongst its peers, pioneering many innovative products and manufacturing procedures. Since that time we’ve maintained the innovative spirit of the Eibar factory, constantly adapting our products for our customers. When guns were no longer the business of Orbea, we used our innate knowledge of steel tubing to build bicycles of all types, from the premium to the most basic.
The cycle of progress never ends with our team of passionate individuals and champions who constantly innovate and adapt to the changing marketplace and rider needs. The best of Orbea is always in our work, and because of it we are always seeking new ways to improve and make the best bicycles on Earth.
Laufey is our most clever and versatile bike. Instead of saying that Laufey is tailored for one type of rider, we’re going to go ahead and claim this fun-loving machine is perfect for everyone. Laufey is omnipotent: it’s a slack, simple trail bike that relishes new terrain. Laufey may be someone’s first bike or their latest bike. It’s inexpensive and attainable, and it’s a niche bike that feels at home in even the most exclusive bike collection. It’s for first timers and expert shredders. Ride it in lycra, shred it in jeans. Laufey is a jack-of-all-trades and master of fun with 29” wheels and a 140mm fork.
Do your friends ask if you intend to ride the chairlift when you invite them out for a ‘few’ park laps? Do your top routes frequently involve pushing up and down trails that aren’t on any map? Do your favorite rides begin or end with headlamps, an ice chest and great friends? Does your bike have to do everything well to get you there and back again? If you think you might be this rider, then Occam should be your bike.
It’s the difference between the tentative first go of the year and the ripping third lap of a midsummer day. It’s the ease of knowing your suspension is dialed. It’s a boost of confidence, speed and control when a bit more of any could make a winning formula. Enduralin is the extra bit of fun that turns a good ride into a great one – the shouting of the crowd, a flow state of euphoria, cowbells, chainsaws, accelerated reaction time and enhanced perception. It’s the difference between a Good Time and All-Time.
WE ARE ARTISANS
Our meticulous attention to detail has always set us apart. Even when our predecessors were making guns at a furious pace, they always took the extra time to customize their pieces, to add ornate filigree when requested.
Through the years, we’ve maintained that tradition of creative quality, and carried it through to our bicycles. Technical artistry reminiscent of Spanish form from the days of the Arab conquerors of the Iberian Peninsula, is seen in our bicycles, in their design, in their colors, and in their aesthetic. Every tiny detail on the bike has been hand picked for the best riding experience possible, making the bike as much a part of the rider as the legs powering it forward.
WE ARE COMPETITION
From our first day setting foot in the world of cycling we’ve partnered with the best competitive cyclists. From Mariano Cañardo, our first great rider, to the first Vuelta a España in history, and with great conquerors of mountains like Federico Ezquerra and the Montero brothers…
Then, in the 1980s, we saw an opportunity to return to the forefront of racing. Led by a legend, Txomin Perurena, our early winning ways were implanted in the hearts of our fans, from the Vuelta a Perico, Pais Vasco con Peio, the accomplishments of Marino…
Then, we came back with the Euskadi Foundation, Roberto Laiseka, Iban Mayo, Haimar Zubeldia, winning stages in the Tour, the Vuelta, in the hardest of climbs, from Luz Ardiden to the fierce Zoncolan, through Abantos and Andorra.
But we also went Olympic, almost from the first moment we attacked the world of MTB with Roberto Lezaun and Jokin Mujika, from Atlanta to London, touching the top step of the podium with the best rider in recent history, Julien Absalon, who won in Beijing within days of Samuel Sanchez. An epic – even Olympic – triumph for Orbea.
